Directions to the Historic Carter House

The Historic Carter House is located within Carter Plantation in Springfield, Louisiana, and is easily accessible from Baton Rouge, Hammond, and New Orleans.

Springfield, Louisiana | Carter Plantation

  • Take I-12 East toward Hammond

  • Exit at Albany / Springfield

  • Continue toward Springfield

  • At the red light in Springfield, continue straight

  • Turn right onto the second street on the right, Carter Cemetery Road (near the Baptist Church)

  • Continue straight to the Carter Plantation entrance

  • Enter the gate and do not follow the sweeping left curve

  • Take the road to the right and follow it to the end

  • The Carter House will be straight ahead

From Baton Rouge

  • Take I-55 South

  • Exit at Ponchatoula / Springfield

  • Continue toward Springfield

  • At the red light in Springfield, turn left

  • Turn right onto the second street on the right, Carter Cemetery Road (near the Baptist Church)

  • Continue straight to the Carter Plantation entrance

  • Enter the gate and turn right instead of following the left curve

  • Follow the road to the end to reach the Historic Carter House

From Hammond

  • Take I-55 North toward Hammond

  • Exit at Ponchatoula / Springfield

  • Continue toward Springfield

  • At the red light in Springfield, turn left

  • Turn right onto the second street on the right, Carter Cemetery Road (near the Baptist Church)

  • Continue straight to the Carter Plantation entrance

  • Enter the gate and take the right-hand road

  • Follow it to the end—the Carter House will be directly ahead
